Course Description:

In a busy analytical laboratory, it is easy to take safe working conditions for granted. This presentation will focus on how incorporating good safety practices can improve laboratory performance. The webinar will include three sections:

  1. Laboratory Safety Basics
  2. How to Write a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP)
    (Presenter will provide a CHP template that attendees can customize for use in their laboratory.)
  3. How to Perform a Safety Audit
    (A form will be provided that attendees can use to perform a safety audit in their lab.)

Learning Objectives:

  • Knows the importance of maintaining good safety practices in their laboratory.
  • Knows how to write and use a Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Knows how annual safety audits can keep staff focused on safety.
  • Knows how to identify areas for improvement.

Intended Audience:

This course is designed for Managers/Supervisors and Safety Personnel

Cost:

$125 per person for TNI members
$140 per person for TNI non-members
$600 per group of 5-10 students at same location for TNI members
$675 per group of 5-10 students at same location for TNI non-members

 



No certificates are automatically provided with this training. A Certificate of Completion (CoC) ($30 per person) or Certificate of Attendance (CoA) ($20 per person) may be purchased during or after registration or webcast purchase. A passing score of at least 70% must be received on the exam in order to receive CEUs and a CoC. Scores of less than 70% will receive a Certificate of Attendance at no reduced fee. About the Presenter:
Mary Johnson, a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, was the long time Laboratory Manager at Four Rivers Sanitation Authority. She is a past chair of WEF’s Laboratory Practices Committee and currently represents WEF on the Environmental Monitoring Coalition. She is also a member of the Illinois WEA’s Laboratory Committee and holds an Illinois Class I Wastewater Operator Certificate.
